Who Was The First Minister Of Transportation In Nigeria?

The first Minister of Transportation in Nigeria was Kema Chikwe. She served in this position from June 1999 until 2001. Kema Chikwe also had a strong background in education and media.

She studied French and obtained degrees in the subject, eventually earning a doctorate in curriculum education from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Also, she worked as a radio journalist, editor, and publisher, giving her experience in communication and leadership.

After serving as the Minister of Transportation, Kema Chikwe went on to become the Federal Minister of Aviation, where she continued to influence important infrastructure projects in Nigeria. She held this position from 2001 until 2003.

Throughout her career, Kema Chikwe was known for her involvement in politics, particularly with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and for her commitment to improving Nigeria’s transportation and aviation systems.

Who Is The New Ministry Of Transportation In Nigeria?

Sa'idu Ahmed Alkali

Sa’idu Ahmed Alkali is the new Minister of Transportation in Nigeria. He was appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on August 16, 2023. Alkali is a prominent politician from Gombe State.

He was born on February 12, 1969, and has had a long career in public service. Alkali served as a Senator representing the Gombe North senatorial district. He first won election to this position in 2010 after the previous senator passed away.

Then, he was re-elected in 2011. Alkali was initially a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), but after some challenges within the party, he switched to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2019.

He won the election under this new party. Despite his successes, Alkali faced challenges in the political landscape. He lost his re-election bid in the 2023 general elections to Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, a former governor.

This loss was notable as he had previously defeated Dankwambo in 2019. Alkali earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics. He was also a commissioner of information in Gombe State under Governor Danjuma Goje.

Throughout his political journey, Alkali has been recognized for his contributions and dedication to public service. He holds the honorary title of Sarkin Gabas Dukku.
