How Has Ekiti State’s Population Changed Over The Years?
During the national census in 1991, the population of Ekiti State was recorded at 1,535,790, and by 2006, another census revealed that the population had grown to 2,398,957.
This was an increase of about 56% in 15 years. However, the growth during this time was pushed by natural population increases and migration into the state.
By 2022, the population was projected to have reached approximately 3,592,200. This represented a 50% growth since 2006, showing a steady rise in the number of people living in Ekiti.
Improvements in healthcare reduced mortality rates, while natural population growth continued to play a big part. Additionally, urbanization and migration to towns such as Ado-Ekiti contributed to this increase, as more people moved to areas with better infrastructure and opportunities.
