What Is The Capital Of Lagos State?
The capital city of Lagos State is Ikeja. With a population estimated at 470,200 in 2022, Ikeja serves as the administrative and commercial center of Lagos State.
Ikeja was known as “Akeja,” named after a deity of the Awori people. It was originally settled by the Awori people and later became an agricultural hinterland for Lagos.
Ikeja’s transformation into a bustling city began with the opening of the Lagos-Ibadan railway in 1901, which facilitated its growth as a residential and industrial suburb of Lagos.
Today, Ikeja is well-known for its vibrant atmosphere, diverse economic activities, and cultural value. Notably, Ikeja hosts the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, the largest airport in Nigeria.

Which Is The Most Populated Local Government In Lagos State?
The most populated local government area in Lagos State is Alimosho.
According to the Population Projection of 2022, Alimosho has the largest population in Lagos State, estimated to be about 1,953,500 people. Although the official census figure from 2006 recorded a population of 1,288,714, the Lagos State Government argued that the actual population at that time exceeded 2 million residents within the LGA.
Alimosho was established in 1945 and has since been subdivided into several Local Community Development Areas (LCDA) including Agbado/Oke-odo LCDA, Ayobo/Ipaja LCDA, Egbe/Idimu LCDA, Ikotun/Igando LCDA, and Mosan Okunola LCDA.
The area is culturally rich, with major festivals such as Oro, Igunnu, and Egungun celebrated annually. The population of Alimosho is mostly made up of Egbados, and the community is seen by the widespread practice of Islam and Christianity.
Yoruba is the predominant language spoken in the area. Despite its rich culture and large population, Alimosho is often regarded as the noisiest local government area in Lagos State.
