Who Was The First Commandant General Of NSCDC?

The first Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) was Abiola Aturamu, who held the position from 2004 to 2005. Abiola Aturamu had a security and civil defense background, although not much is known about his early life or education.

The NSCDC, originally formed during the Nigerian Civil War in 1967, started as a small group called the Lagos Civil Defence Committee. It was created to help protect civilians and teach them how to stay safe during the war.

Over the years, this group grew into a national organization, and by 1970, it officially became the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps. In 2004, when the title of Commandant General was created, Abiola Aturamu was the first to take on this role.

You could say he laid the foundation for how the NSCDC operates today. He was focused on strengthening the connection between the Corps and the community. By doing this, he helped people understand how important civil defense is, not just during a war, but in everyday life too.

During his short time as the head of the NSCDC, he also pushed for better training programs for staff, making sure they were prepared to handle crises and emergencies.

Even though his tenure only lasted a year, his impact was notable. The policies and strategies he introduced are still part of the Corps’ approach to protecting lives and property in Nigeria today.
