1. Lamido Ibrahim
One of the senators currently representing Sokoto State is Ibrahim Lamido. He’s a Nigerian politician serving at the Senate level representing the Sokoto East district in the 10th National Assembly, and is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The INEC Returning Officer, Prof. Muhammad Bayawa, declared Lamido as the winner in Sokoto.
Lamido secured 112,764 votes, defeating his closest rival, Gwanda Shuaibu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who had 107,834 votes. Abdullahi Dahiru of the New Nigeria Peoples Party came in third place with 410 votes.
2. Magatakarda Aliyu Wamakko
Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko is a prominent Nigerian politician currently serving as a senator representing Sokoto North district in the 10th National Assembly.
Born on March 1, 1953, in Wamakko, Sokoto State, Nigeria, Wamakko has been an active figure in Nigerian politics. Wamakko was a former Governor of Sokoto State from May 29, 2007, to May 29, 2015. He was elected governor under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
During his tenure, he implemented various initiatives aimed at poverty reduction and youth empowerment, such as the establishment of the State Poverty Reduction Agency (SPORA) and youth skills acquisition programs.
Before his governorship, he spent five years at Sokoto Teachers’ College before pursuing higher education at the University of Pittsburgh in the United States, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree.
Upon returning to Nigeria, he worked as a teacher and later worked at local government and state government offices. He also served as Deputy Governor of Sokoto State under Governor Attahiru Bafarawa from 1999 to 2006.
Then he later contested and won the gubernatorial elections, although his initial victory was annulled due to party affiliation issues. However, he emerged victorious in the subsequent re-run election.
Wamakko has been associated with different political parties, including the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

3. Abdullahi Ibrahim Danbaba
Ibrahim Abdullahi Danbaba is the current Senator representing Sokoto State. Born on January 1, 1953, in Sabon Birni, Sokoto State, he is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Danbaba has a background in accounting and graduated from the University of Sokoto. He started his political career as the Deputy Governor of Sokoto State from 1999 to 2003.
Later, he joined the Senate, representing the Sokoto South Senatorial District since June 9, 2015. In his educational pursuit, Danbaba obtained his West African School Certificate (WAEC) from Government Secondary School Gusan in 1979. He furthered his studies at the Advance Teachers College, Sokoto, where he earned his NCE in 1976.
After graduating in 1981, he sought Management at the University of Sokoto and received an Advanced Diploma in Accounting from the Loton College of Higher Education, United Kingdom, in 1989.
In the February 23, 2019 elections, Danbaba faced tough competition from Shehu Tambuwal but emerged victorious, securing his position as the Senator representing Sokoto South senatorial district.
However, In November 2019, the Court of Appeal Sokoto Division upheld Danbaba’s position as Senator after Senator Shehu Tambuwal was removed from office following the reversal of judgment/dismissal of the petition by the Election Petition Tribunal.
