Abia State is located in the Southeast part of Nigeria. Umuahia is the metropolis of Abia State and Aba serves as the commercial center.

Being one of the Niger Delta region’s members, Abia State was created in 1991; the creation led to the state breaking out from Imo state.

With about 95% of the population, the Igbo are the major occupants of the state. In addition to English being the official language, the traditional Igbo language is also widely spoken. The state’s predominant religion is Christianity.

The total area of Abia State is approximately 6,320 square kilometers. The southern part of the state lies in Nigeria’s riverine area and features low-lying tropical rainforest topography.

In the north, there is a plain that is somewhat elevated as well as a forest savanna. Production of natural gas and crude oil makes up more than 39% of Abia State’s GDP, which is the state’s primary economic engine.

Agriculture, which primarily produces taro, oil palm, cassava, maize, and yams, is a key economic activity. Manufacturing is a big industry, especially in Aba, where goods including soap, textiles, chemicals, cement, shoes, makeup, and medications are produced.
