How Has Kogi State’s Population Changed Over The Years?

Kogi State’s population has changed greatly over the years due to different demographic and socio-economic factors. During the national census in 1991, the population of Kogi State was recorded at 2,147,756.

And, by 2006, Kogi State’s population had risen to 3,314,043, a substantial increase of about 54.2% since 1991. However, the growth was primarily pushed by natural population growth, which includes higher birth rates, and migration, as more people moved into the state.

This period also saw some socio-economic developments that likely contributed to the rise in population. In 2016, projections estimated that Kogi’s population would grow to around 4,473,490.

Yet, by 2022, estimates placed the population slightly lower than expected, at 4,466,800. While this was a small difference, it still showed a steady increase compared to earlier figures.

In 2025, current projections estimate that Kogi State’s population will reach about 4,809,743. This will be a growth of approximately 7.7% since 2022.
