Who Was The First Governor Of Borno State?

The first governor of Borno State was Brigadier (Air Force) Musa Usman. He served as the inaugural governor of North-Eastern State, Nigeria, from May 1967 to July 1975.

Musa Usman, who attended the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in England, gained his commission in 1962. He played an important part in the July 1966 coup that saw Major General Aguiyi Ironsi overthrown and General Yakubu Gowon take power.

Appointed governor in May 1967, Usman initiated the construction of the Ashaka cement factory, which opened in July 1979. In 1975, he engaged in negotiations with Cameroon to settle border disputes.

Usman also supported the transition to civilian rule in 1976. After retiring, he resided in Kaduna’s prestigious Jabi Street area and served as a director of the Bank of the North.

Brigadier Musa Usman’s tenure marked the early governance of what later became Borno State, leaving a legacy of developmental initiatives and diplomatic engagements.

Who Is The Current Governor Of Borno State?

Babagana Zulum

The current governor of Borno State is Babagana Zulum, having been in office since May 29, 2019. Zulum was born on August 25, 1969, in the Mafa Local Government Area of Borno State.

He studied at the University of Maiduguri and earned a degree in Agriculture Engineering. Later, he obtained a master’s degree from the University of Ibadan and a PhD from the University of Maiduguri.

Zulum began his career in the Borno State Civil Service and served as a lecturer at the University of Maiduguri. He has had various positions in academia and government, including Commissioner of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, and Resettlement.

Zulum is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and won the gubernatorial primaries for Borno State in October 2018. He was elected as governor in the 2019 Borno gubernatorial election with 1,175,440 votes.

As governor, Zulum has focused on addressing the challenges facing Borno State, particularly in areas such as agriculture, education, and infrastructure.

Who Is The Current Deputy Governor Of Borno State?

Umar Usman Kadafur

Umar Usman Kadafur is the current deputy governor of Borno State in Nigeria since May 2019. Kadafur went to Mbulamel Primary School and attended Government Science Secondary School Monguno for his high school education.

He continued his studies at the University of Maiduguri, where he studied public administration. In April 2021, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum appointed Kadafur as the acting governor from April 29 to May 19, 2021, and It was accepted by the members of the Borno State House of Assembly.
