What Is The Capital Of Jigawa State, Nigeria?
Dutse, located in northern Nigeria is the capital city of Jigawa State. Established in 1991 during the military regime of General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, Jigawa State was borne out of the fervent aspirations of its people, notably championed by figures like Malam Inuwa-Dutse, a former commissioner of Agriculture and Natural Resources in the old Kano State.
The name “Dutse” derives from its rocky terrain, abundant with different forms of rocks, which are scattered across the town’s landscape.
Mostly populated by the Hausa and Fulani ethnic groups, Dutse has a population of approximately 153,000 as of 2009, making it the largest city in Jigawa State.
The climate in Dutse is seen by a dry season, which persists throughout the year, drawn by partly cloudy and hot conditions.
Contrarily, the wet season brings muggy and cloudy weather. Average annual temperatures range between 54 and 103 degrees Fahrenheit, with May typically being the hottest month.
However, the best time to visit Dutse for warm-weather activities is generally from early December to early February. In addition to its administrative value as the state capital, Dutse is also a hub for education and research.
It is home to the Federal University, Dutse, established in November 2011, as well as a Research Institute for Date Palm and a state polytechnic.
The Jigawa State Polytechnic, with its College of Business and Management Studies, contributes to the educational scene of the city. Dutse’s economy is primarily agrarian, with fertile lands supporting farming activities.
