The capital of Kogi State, Nigeria, is Lokoja. Located at the confluence of the Niger and Benue rivers, Lokoja is a historic city with various ethnic groups, including the Yoruba, Bassa Nge, Nupe, Hausa, Ebira, Igala, Igbo, Bini/Edo, and Tiv.

Which Is The Largest LGA In Kogi State By Population?
Ankpa is the largest Local Government Area (LGA) by population in Kogi State. This bustling community, with its headquarters located in Ankpa Town along the A233 highway, has an extensive area covering 1,200 square kilometers.
At the last census in 2006, Ankpa was home to 267,353 residents, a number that rose to 358,800 by 2022. Ankpa’s roots trace back centuries to its founding by Atiyele, the grandson of Abutu Ejeh, who established the Igala Kingdom.
The Ankpa kingdom once encompassed present-day Ankpa and Olamaboro LGAs, growing into Idoma land and reaching as far as Anambra state.
