What Is The Capital City Of Bauchi State?
Bauchi, also known historically as Yakoba, is the capital city of Bauchi State, located in northeast Nigeria. It is the administrative center of Bauchi State, within the Bauchi Local Government Area and the traditional Bauchi Emirate.
The city is located on the northern edge of the Jos Plateau, with coordinates 10°18′57″N 9°50′39″E and an elevation of 616 meters.
The emirate of Bauchi was established between 1800 and 1810 by Yakubu, one of Sheikhs Usman Dan Fodio’s commanders.
Bauchi’s name is derived from a hunter named Baushe, who advised Yakubu to build the city west of the Warinje mountain. In return, Yakubu promised to name the city after the hunter.
Bauchi City is one of the twenty Local Government Areas of Bauchi state, which also include Tafawa Balewa, Dass, Toro, Bogoro, Ningi, Warji, Ganjuwa, Kirfi, Alkaleri, Darazo, Misau, Giade, Shira, Jamaare, Katagum, Itas/Gadau, Zaki, Gamawa, and Damban.
Historically, Bauchi faced revolts under the rule of Emir Ibrahim ibn Yakubu, son and successor of Yakubu. The city was the provincial capital during British colonial rule and became the capital of Bauchi state when it was created in 1976.
